How Long Can You Leave A Wax Warmer On

Wax melts are a very efficient way to fragrance your home, but are they safe to leave on all the time! First of all, good quality wax melt cubes will throw scent for up to 10 hours before it stops smelling good. So keeping a wax warmer on any longer would be pointless. Once the fragrance has disintegrated it would be best to turn off the heat source allowing the remaining wax to harden thus making it easier to remove. Once removed you can then add a fresh wax cube and start over.

Secondly, the type of wax warmer you use will limit the time a wax warmer can be left on. For example, if you use a tealight wax warmer it will extinguish itself once the tealight has used all of its wax. Most tealight candles are made to last between 4 hours and 8 hours.

Electric wax warmers, on the other hand, can be left on indefinitely. However, if left on too long the warmer could overheat and become a hazard.

So How Long Can You Leave A Wax Warmer On? Although it is best to refer to the manufacturer’s guidelines for the specific wax warmer you use, as a general rule the following is a good guide.

A tealight wax warmer can be left on between 4 – 8 hours or until the scent has stopped.

Electric wax warmers can be left on for up to 10 hours or until the wax melt has stopped giving off fragrance.

Safety Considerations When Using A Wax Warmer

Although it is possible to leave a wax warmer on for a long time does not mean you should. For example, you should turn off the heat source whenever you leave your home or are out of the room for a significant amount of time.

Make sure your wax melt warmer is out of reach of children and pets and on a hard steady surface that is NOT flammable. Also, pay attention to the surrounding area and keep away from anything that could cause a fire such as curtains.

      Hi Linda,

We can not advise you on this as we do not know the make or model of your wax warmer. The best thing you could do is speak to the manufacturer. However, wax warmers are designed for burning wax. Burning without wax may cause the dish to overheat and smash, Depending on the specific one you have.

Wax melt scents don’t all have the same ingredients, I wouldn’t imagine someone to be allergic to all scents. I know some people are allergic to some scents and can cause them headaches etc. But there will be some scents that don’t affect you.

If you really wanted to burn it for the appearance you could try removing the unscented wax from a tealight, taking the wick out and burning that in it. However, some people can have reactions to waxes which could be your issue. Try using different types, i.e Soy wax, Paraffin wax, Beeswax.

      Hope this helps.
